There has been a shift in mentality coming from the medical community. According to this Harvard health blog, there is little evidence that opioids are beneficial for chronic low back pain, and do not out weigh the risk of addiction when taken for extended periods of time.
Exercise, proper body mechanics, and other conservative forms of care have shown to be effective in managing chronic pain, without the dangerous, addictive, side effects.
