Chiropractic Care vs. Back Surgery

As chiropractic education and techniques continue to improve, the profession is becoming trusted as spine specialists in the healthcare field.  When a patient experiences low back or neck pain, conservative chiropractic care is the first line of defense.  Many orthopedic and neurosurgeons are recommending 4-6 weeks of conservative care such as chiropractic, massage, physical therapy, and acupuncture before they consider any surgical consultations or MRI's.  Surgery is often not required for spine conditions, unless symptoms have become severe, and conservative efforts have already been taken.  Listed below are examples of when a chiropractor should be seen for back pain, and when a surgical consult is necessary.
